Preparing new officials for prefectoral responsibilities

Thirty-five civil administrators recently appointed as sub-prefects took part in a training session held from 14 to 18 July 2025 at the General Directorate of Territorial Administration.

The opening ceremony took place on 14 July 2025 under the chairmanship of Doin Doh Urie, Deputy Director General of Territorial Administration.

The session was intended to prepare the new administrative authorities for their duties and strengthen their understanding of the responsibilities associated with representing the State in administrative districts.

Exemplary conduct, rigour and responsibility

At the opening of the session, the Deputy Director General of Territorial Administration encouraged participants to make full use of the training.

He placed particular emphasis on exemplary conduct, rigour and responsibility as guiding values for prefectoral authorities. He also recalled the importance attached by the Minister of the Interior and Security to training and to the public image of administrative authorities.

The role of a sub-prefect involves representing the State close to local communities, coordinating administrative action and understanding territorial realities.

Strengthening skills before taking office

The programme served as a professional induction stage for the newly appointed sub-prefects.

It was intended to help them better understand:

• the responsibilities attached to their position;

• the organisation of territorial administration;

• the requirements of representing the State;

• administrative management principles;

• the professional conduct expected from prefectoral authorities;

• relations with citizens, local authorities and public services.
